Recruitment 2026

Multimedia Drawing Studio

Head of the studio:

prof. ASP dr hab. Przemysław Łopaciński

Assistant:

dr Filip Ignatowicz

After two years of basic education the student should have fundamental drawing skills such as differentiating proportions, reading the differences between light and shade, building space with drawing means, drawing perspective. By consolidating previously acquired skills, classes encourage students to acquire new ones, to overcome the fear of the unknown. They provoke to take the risk of embarking upon an individual search within the broadly understood painting space. By implementing individual projects, students develop their creativity and independence. They face the necessity of verbal defence of their works. Widening their artistic awareness, they also broaden the field of perception of painting as an autonomous field of expression. Painting is no longer perceived by them as a collection of skills or dexterity. Classes in the studio are supposed to convince them that it is only the wise use of these skills that can allow them to fully develop as artists.

The basis for the functioning of the studio are the principles of individualisation of methods and subjectivity of the student. Students are motivated to use various drawing and related techniques. Students’ works are created in three main streams: drawings based on model study; realisations of their own projects, regularly consulted but often created outside the studio; realisations of problematic tasks individualised for each student. The didactic goal is for the student to achieve the highest possible degree of artistic and humanistic self-awareness. Awareness, which after graduation is more useful than the ability to draw a leg. During especially organised meetings in the studio, selected students are given the opportunity to present their works to invited guests (other lecturers, critics, curators, students from other studios) and listen to their opinions. The studio is an area of a free exchange of thoughts, without assuming in advance which side is right.
