Interdepartmental Chair of Short Film and Video Forms

The Interdepartmental Chair of Short Film and Video Forms was officially established in 2023. Its emergence was a natural continuation of the long-standing tradition of video and audiovisual practices at our university, shaped by several generations of acclaimed artists and pioneers of video art. As early as the late 1980s, Prof. Witosław Czerwonka and the current Prof. Wojciech Zamiara began experimenting with a borrowed VCR and VHS camera.

The concept of the Chair developed through collective initiatives such as workshops and annual intermedia plein-air sessions. It was also fostered by the establishment—through our involvement—of the specialization in Film and Post-Photographic Image within the Intermedia program, as well as the long-awaited launch of the Photography program.

We are convinced that the Academy is a unique place where many creative and technological explorations intersect. It is a space of mutual enrichment and natural opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

We operate as an interdepartmental structure within the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia, but remain open to cooperation with other faculties—such as the Animation and Visualization Studio within the Faculty of Graphic Arts.

We are actively involved in the development of professional and artistic practices in the Pomeranian region. Members of our Chair are co-founders of the Tricity Chapter of the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Creative Work Center of the PFA in Sopot.

We believe that the short film form offers the potential to address large and significant themes. Our work is inspired, among other things, by the tradition of the Polish Film School, particularly its spirit of experimentation through "small forms." Our goal is to make the Interdepartmental Chair of Short Film and Video Forms a space of freedom, bold artistic decisions, and creative growth.
