The subject of visual anatomy, also known as artistic anatomy, is the description and study of the human body in terms of its shape, proportions, both in resting position and in different phases of movement. The interest is therefore focused on those anatomical structures that have a significant impact on the sculpture of the figure and form the basis of its shapes. The scope of the material includes general and detailed issues. General issues: Human body plan, body environs, marking of planes and directions in space, symmetry and asymmetry of the body, proportions of the body and their changes in the process of growth, sexual dimorphism, morphological differences related to individual age, construction types, racial diversity of the human species. Detailed issues: Structure of the skeleton as a whole and its parts, formation of individual bones, construction of their connections in resting position and in different phases of movement, important superficial muscles and their participation in body movement, structure of the skin and its sculpture in individual parts of the body, skin creations – mammary gland, hair, nails, topography of important skin veins, detailed anatomy of the head taking into account anthropological remarks concerning the organ of sight, the external nose and the auricle. This is the scope of knowledge that a student of the ASP should be acquainted with after the anatomy course concerning elementary knowledge about the shape and structure of human body. He should have the ability to use this knowledge in various forms, regardless of the direction his artistic interests will ultimately take and of his future technique.
