Foreigners and foreign certificates and diplomas

Persons who are not Polish citizens may be admitted to the Doctoral School in accordance with the Rules for undertaking and pursuing higher education by persons who are not Polish citizens, hereinafter referred to as "foreigners". These Rules regulate in particular the following provisions of the law:

1. Article 323(1) of the Act of the 20th of July 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science (consolidated text: Journal of Laws 2020, item 85, as amended, hereinafter referred to as the "Act");
2. Act on Foreigners of the 12th of December 2013 (consolidated text: Journal of Laws 2020, item 35, as amended);
3. obtained a positive result from the competition examination and are on the ranking list drawn up according to the number of points obtained during the recruitment procedure, within the limit of places set by the Senate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

A foreigner, according to Polish law, is any person who does not have Polish citizenship.

Foreigners are subject to the recruitment procedure in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the recruitment procedure of the Doctoral School of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, taking into account the provisions of this paragraph.

Each graduation diploma obtained outside Poland, subject to section 4 of this paragraph, must have an apostille or be legalised in the country of its issue:

> an apostille – in the case of documents issued in states that are parties to the Hague Convention of the 5th of October 1961 (Journal of Laws 2005, No. 112, item 938) in the form of a separate document (stamp), translated by a sworn translator (registered in the Republic of Poland) into Polish;

> legalisation – confirms the authenticity of a document issued in a country other than Poland. Legalisation shall be carried out in the state which issued the document and has not adopted the Hague Convention referred to above. For this purpose, one should contact the institution which is responsible for legalisation of documents intended for circulation abroad in that state.

A diploma recognised on the basis of an international agreement as equivalent to the relevant Polish diploma confirming the completion of second-cycle or long-cycle programmes, or recognised as giving access to training at a doctoral school in the Republic of Poland, shall not require any additional official action.

Any document issued in a language other than Polish should be translated into Polish. The translation should be certified by a sworn translator in Poland.
