_____

Programme “wood, stone” of the Studio of Sculptural Techniques

The aim of the Studio of Sculptural Techniques at the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia is to pay special attention to the technological and creative value of materials such as wood and stone in sculpture. Discovering the characteristics of materials as a sculpting medium is one of the important goals of the studio's programme. In the basic scope, I prepare students to freely use various possibilities of technological processing of different kinds of wood and stone. During the classes the student learns such skills as: gluing, assembling elements of wood and stone, using chisel, cutting, sanding, milling, patinating. The student interprets the given topic of the exercises skilfully, conducts the whole process of creating the form on his own, from a concept through sketch to realization, consciously using the properties of materials. The Studio of Sculptural Techniques is an open studio, which means that it serves not only students of sculpture, but also students from other faculties who want to become familiar with these traditional materials in their education process at the university.
