Basics of Sculpture 2 Studio

Head of the studio:

prof. Jan Szczypka

Assistant:

prof. ASP dr hab. Dariusz Sitek

_____

First and second year, four semesters, sixteen hours a week

Classes in the sculpture basics studio are based primarily on the study of human form from nature. The study deals with the issues of portrait, act in various arrangements, relief, anatomical detail. While working with a model, students thoroughly analyse the structural and anatomical structure of the model, proportions, mutual relations of masses and directions. On the basis of this analysis, they build sculptural compositions to scale, starting from a properly made construction, through the modelling stage in clay, ending with plaster casting.

The whole education process consists of individual adjustments, taking into account the manual and creative abilities of each student. The aim of the education is to develop a habit of systematic work, during which the student masters the basic sculpting language and acquires the necessary technical skills needed to make sculptures in plaster and other materials such as concrete, adhesives or ceramic masses. During the classes the students master the technology of making stucco and silicone forms and undergo practical exercises in anatomy. For second-year students, especially in the summer semester, I go with a more individual approach to the topics and their own attempt at interpreting the model.
