Artistic Graphics Studio – Digital Techniques

Head of the studio:

mgr Vasyl Savchenko

_____

The aim of the studio is open-mindedness and willingness to search for new paths in graphics and the broadly understood issue of art. It is asking questions and searching for answers using various visual media.

The times we live in today and the world around us can certainly be called “hybrid reality”.  Why? It is enough to see where our mobile phone is now and if it is charged. Fifteen years ago, in order to exist in a different, virtual/digital reality, we had to do a number of things, from sitting at the computer, turning it on, to doing some more complicated procedures for connecting to the Internet. Today, we no longer think about all these activities, we simply live in parallel in two worlds – digital and real.

We know all this and it is not new to us. But how does this situation affect art? And, in particular, artistic graphics?

The digital revolution began a long time ago and the digital era is over. And the post-digital era is ahead of us. We use computer software and an engraver just like a chisel, crayon or pencil. This definitely enriches and supports the traditional media of artistic graphics.

The Studio of Digital Techniques is open to inter-departmental cooperation, inter-studio tasks and the development of group projects, which we present at individual studio exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Students can combine elements of design, painting or drawing with such techniques as: intaglio, lithography, linocut, screen printing, woodcut or animation. Each of the above mentioned techniques and methods can be interfered with in a digital way – very diverse and original. Using a computer as a tool, which is very important, with the knowledge and ability to use colours and colour modes, we can master modern printing technology: inkjet, pigment, solvent, laser and UV. Using new technologies or combining them with artistic graphics, respecting the culture of paper and remembering tradition, we make a certain redefinition of graphics and of the term “print” itself.
