Recruitment 2026

Animation and Visual Actions Studio

Head of the studio:

dr Robert Turło
mgr Adam Przybysz

We are one of the studios at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.

At the same time, we are the home centre of the Interdepartmental Animation Specialisation, which still spans between the Faculty of Graphic Arts and the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia. Our programme is supported by visiting professors:

prof. Piotr Muszalski from UAP in Poznań, prof. Piotr Dumała from the Film School in Łódź and lecturers from the Gdynia Film School, as well as masters of Polish Animation invited by us to workshops.

We teach the basics of film animation, using analogue (manual) and digital technologies. We continue to use these skills to study the issues of broadly defined film narration. Our students develop:

> short animated films (idea, script, screenplay, animation, sound engineering),

> infographic projects (font animation, sign, simple graphic structure), so-called motion design,

> mapping and performative mapping activities (interiors, objects, public space),

> 3D animation, interactive projects (basics of augmented virtual reality, game design).

Our digital tools include mainly: After Effects, Tvpaint, Cinema 4D and those preferred by students.

The miracle of animation

Dash, spot, light reflection, shift – it is difficult to see the uniqueness in each of these components. Animated painting spots are largely accidental, they meet only the main assumptions of the creator, who has to make several dozen or several hundred of them, and it is difficult for him to maintain one hundred percent continuity of form, to subordinate it completely to himself. Movement of a picture dead by its nature, even if illusory, is astonishing. And this is for me the miracle of film animation – as a result of relatively simple technical procedures, we can observe on screen a happening that never exists, but is visible and audible, with a beginning and an end – like in life. Although the dream of revival does not come true, at least, thanks to the animator, we can see it.
