Space is the area of interior designer’s work. Conscious use of form is an undoubted aim and task of the studio. The subject is intended to introduce the student to the language of objects and space in its elementary layer, and thus to indicate the key orientation in the complex design process.
Observation of the world most fully reveals what space is both on a macro and micro scale – it teaches about the diversity of illumination activities, the significance of matter shaping the depth of space and its character, about simple spatial phenomena.
Problems tackled in the studio – natural factors of three-dimensionality: shape, matter, light, colour, time; external factors: the purpose of space and its basic functions; cultural archetypes and their contemporary overtones. The adopted method of task realisation is to practice various technical skills in order to balance intellectual development with the development of intuition and artistic sensitivity. The aim is to establish the basis of efficient seeing, thinking and acting necessary in the profession of a future interior designer.
